Optimising the Code on Web Pages
Behind every website page is the source code, this is
what the search engines read and there are many
aspects of optimisation which revolve around
tweaking this code, these are usually things which
the site visitor will never see.
There are also aspects which are very much geared towards your visitors, but are also relevant to search engines such as the navigation, structure and including a sitemap, this is on page optimisation.
- The name of the page or URL is an excellent opportunity for telling the search engines exactly what the page is about, and is probably the single most important factor.
- A very close second, is having unique, appropriate and correctly structured page titles, this aspect is relevant for both the search engines and your site visitors, because this is what they are likely to see when you start appearing in the Google results pages.
- Alt tags offer opportunities to add text on pages, but also guarantee that any images and links are as relevant as possible to the pages to which they link.
- It is extremely important to make sure that both site visitors and search engines can easily find their way around your website, designing the navigation structure so it is logical is key to a websites success.
- The code on each page will directly affect the speed at which a page loads, keeping this to a minimum has recently become more important as it's now just one aspect of the Google ranking algorithm.
